Very Rev. George Paulose Corepiscopo
Very Rev. George Paulose Corepiscopo was born in 1954 to T. S. Paulose and Chinnamma, belonging to the respected Valanadyil family of Onakkoor. He is the nephew of the esteemed Valanadyil Thomas Achen, the long-serving Vicar of Kottayam Mar Elia Chapel. From an early age, Rev. George was deeply influenced by his family’s tradition of service to the Church and community, which laid the foundation for his lifelong dedication to ministry.
In 1987, Rev. George married Sheeba Mathew. They were blessed with two children—Gincy and Basil. Gincy is married to Ticil and Basil is to Kripa. The family has grown to include a grandson, Zayne, the son of Gincy and Ticil.
Rev. George’s ecclesiastical journey began early. In 1965, at the age of 11, he was ordained as a Deacon by H.H. Baselios Augen Catholicos, marking the start of his commitment to a life of service. His early work included serving as the Office Secretary for Andhra Pradesh Rehabilitation and Child Welfare Projects. Over the years, Rev. George Paulose Corepiscopo held various significant positions in both the Church and society. He served as a Social Worker for the Delhi Diocesan Community Development Project and as Vicar of several parishes, including St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in Faridabad. He also served as the Chaplain of MGDM Hospital in Kangazha, Kottayam. In 1987, he was ordained to the priesthood by H.G. Dr. Paulose Mar Gregorios, which further deepened his devotion to ministry.
In 1990, Rev. George took on a new role as the Vicar of St. Gregorios Orthodox Church in Tampa, Florida. His leadership was instrumental in the church’s growth and expansion. Under his guidance, the church purchased property on 56th Street in May 1994, followed by the construction of a parish hall. Services were initially held at the Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church in Temple Terrace, while Rev. George’s vision for the community steadily grew.
In 2004, the congregation purchased a property on Jefferson Street, and in 2011, the foundation stone for a new church was laid. The Jefferson Street Church was consecrated in 2015 by H.G. Mathews Mar Barnabas and H.G. Dr. Thomas Mar Markarios, marking a significant milestone in the life of the church. This achievement reflected not just physical growth, but Rev. George’s unwavering dedication to enhancing the spiritual, social, and educational well-being of his congregation.
On March 14, 2020, Rev. George Paulose was elevated to the esteemed position of Cor Episcopos by H.G. Yuhanon Mar Meletius of the Thrissur Diocese, Kerala, India, recognizing his decades of dedicated service and leadership within the Church.
